Question 9 of 12

Mayoral Candidate
Yes, it should be available. Making residents aware of the assessment of the fire protection capabilities will make decisions easier for the mayor and council if there is broad public support.

Mayoral Candidate
Yes. Residents deserve transparency about the state of their fire service and the evidence guiding Council’s decisions. I support releasing the report, subject only to any necessary legal, privacy or security restrictions.

Mayoral Candidate
Yes, before the end of the year.

Mayoral Candidate
Yes. I have long called out for this to be released. I would release the c ompleted report publicly, subject only to any specific material that the City is legally required to withhold for legitimate security or privacy reasons.
Residents are paying for the service and will ultimately pay for improvements to it. They should be able to see the professional assessment on which those decisions are based.

Mayoral Candidate
Yes. The public paid for it and has a right to know what it says. Unless there is specific information that legally has to be withheld for privacy or security reasons, the report should be released in full. Transparency is the only way forward.

Mayoral Candidate
I support making reports publicly available for residents to review. This builds trust and democratic accountability by creating a clear paper trail for citizens, journalists, and watchdogs.
However, there is a caveat with making the Verisk Canada's Fire Underwriters SurveyTM (FUS) completed report publicly available. This is a national organization that provides data on public fire protection for fire insurance statistical work and underwriting purposes of subscribing insurance companies. The (FUS) assessment reports are proprietary documents owned by Verisk Canada and are not automatically public records. (https://fireunderwriters.ca/).
As a municipality, we can choose to release our own audit results or summaries of this report accessing data through the FUS Municipal Portal. Going forward as a municipality, we need to push for greater transparency regarding FUS grading methodologies and reports to help local taxpayers understand community fire safety risks.

Mayoral Candidate
I would support that data being publicly available as everyone should have a say in matters of government affairs. Also, it is important that people are aware of potential safety concerns within their community; transparency is very important, especially in times where accurate information can be difficult to discern.
